Our Resource Centre

Within the resource centre we also hold training sessions and other activities. It is advisable to telephone 01268 522817 before coming in to the centre, to ensure you will have the quiet needed for trying the equipment.

Equipment for visually impaired people

PAVIS resource centre holds various items of equipment to aid independent living.

The demonstration equipment may be used by anybody with a visual impairment who can get to the centre. This equipment enables people to read their personal correspondence, magazine and newspaper articles, view photographs etc. For those with less or no vision PAVIS has a scanner which reads printed items. This can be used with headphones to ensure privacy.

Computers are available to use when training sessions are not running. These are linked to a printer and Braille embosser so that work can be printed in whichever format is preferred.

The centre is also an ideal way for people to find out and try the equipment available to assist them, prior to their purchasing anything. This ensures it is suitable to their needs.

The items held in the centre include scanners, video magnifiers, talking kitchen equipment, clocks, watches and other specially designed devices.
